4th of July weekend

I had one of the best times this past weekend in a camping/tubing trip in New Braunfels. Most of us set up camp Thursday evening. As we were checking into the camp I overheard the warning to the people in front of us to not set up near the PVC pipes in the back of the camping areas because the site has septic tanks and that is where the sewage is released. Later in the evening a group set up further back in the camping grounds and apparently in the middle of four pipes coming out of the ground.

Around 1 am our group heard people yelling from the back of the site. "Turn off the sprinklers!" And from another side "That's sewage!" This went on for a little bit while I explained what I had heard about the so-called sprinklers spewing sewage.

Some time later we hear "I get the sewage joke. But really, turn off the sprinklers." Someone from another camp was nice enough to actually walk over to explain that what was spraying all over these people was not the sprinkler and really was sewage.

Aside from this hilarious moment, the trip was great. Camping was fun. Tubing was even better. I loved just chillaxing for hours in the water and under the sun! One of the guys go so messed up that he couldn't remember taking things in and out of his car and for the longest time believed that someone else had done that to mess with his mind.

I was so exhausted from the driving and good times that instead of driving to Austin to visit my family and then back to College Station, all I really wanted was to go back to College Station and sleep in my own bed, which turned out to be a mistake. Sadly, right after I unloaded my car in College Station my parents called to see if I was coming into town. Had they called earlier I would have come home, but there was some miscommunication when I had talked to them earlier. Not only did my mom made me feel guilty by telling me that my brother and cousin came into Austin as well, the guilt continued the next day when my mom and I had our weekly Sunday phone calls. I'll have to make it up to them some how.

Vacation is over and now back to work ... :)

Amusement of the day ...

Not the most appropriate description, but I found it somewhat amusing that charts and graphs are used in defining Relationships vs. Friends with Benefits.

Lesson learned today.

I really need to find an efficient way to document old code that I'm using in the future. Things seem to make sense the time of execution back then, but sometimes I have no freaking clue what I was thinking or how stuff is working the way it's working. It's not that I don't have any notes. It's just that they're in notebooks, on loose paper, or stored somewhere in my head. Efficiency is the key word here.

There's my geeky moment for the day. The code monkeys are probably staring me down now.

Upon returning to the Super 8 Motel after a day at the watercolor workshop Alexis and I were surprised to see that a wedding reception was going on in the conference room.

Man uses gun for backscratcher, shoots himself

A Fort Worth man trying to scratch an itch on his back used a revolver and accidentally shot himself.

Jorge Espinal, 44, was drinking beer and playing poker around 3 a.m. Sunday in his home in the 3500 block of Montague Street, when he got up from the table and walked into another room, said Fort Worth police Lt. Kenneth Dean.

“He told officers he had an itch on his back and grabbed the first thing he could get a hold of, which was a revolver,” Lt. Dean said. “The gun went off."

Mr. Espinal went back and told his buddies that he shot himself. “They didn’t believe him until they saw the blood coming down his back,” Lt. Dean said.

Mr. Espinal was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

Well, not really everyone. Here's your fair warning ... this link is not for the easily disgusted. But trust me -- it's hilarious!

Facebook stalking ...

I admit. I find myself Facebook stalking ever so often. It's funny how you can learn so much about a person without even talking to them. So sad ... I need a *real* hobby.

spring time = blog time!

I like how the container of my Burger King Onion Rings is appropriately labeled "Frypod." Just in case you suddenly believe that the onion rings are not fried the name on the container is there to assure you that the contents of the cup is indeed fried.

funny sighting of the day ...

While strolling through the mall I glanced over at the easter bunny and found it pretty sad that no one was in line. This also may be due to that fact that it was Monday afternoon. What made it more depressing was that the bunny was sitting on his bench with his head down. At a second glance I realized it wasn't the lack of people that brought the bunny's head down, but rather the fact that he was text messaging on his phone.

Probably one of those "you had to be there" moments ... but I found it amusing. :)

1st day of school ...

... and it's so frustrating. It probably wasn't a good sign when I accidentally threw my ipod with my towel in the "dirty towels" basket at the rec this morning. I was really embarrassed when they started putting on the rubber gloves to dig through the nasty towels. I felt so bad.

I'm just really upset at the school's disorganization. I'm still uncertain on if and when I am teaching. And then there's this class swapping in my schedule. Really, they're not a big deal. I just don't like the first day of school when I'm running around fixing issues.

The first day wore me out. I'm exhausted. :(

Museum hopping in Houston!

So for one of my last days of freedom before school starts Alexis and I went to Houston today to see the museums. We hit the regular hot spots -- The Menil, The Rothko Chapel, some galleries and another installation in the area as well as the MFA Houston and Contemporary Art Museum. The weather was great and it was inspiring to see some art -- some really nice and some really strange. What was odd is that in all the all the places we visited the employees seemed to keep a watchful eye on us. We were not dressed particularly bad nor were we frolicking around like some of the other visitors. One security guard at the sculpture garden gave me a hard glare above his sunglasses like a jerk. I don't know what it was about the two of us that screamed "Keep an eye on these two."

Aside from that I had a great time seeing all the art. I was seriously art-ed out by the end of the day. The extra hour to get out of Houston didn't help either, but that's traffic.
